CORAZON (ANIMA)

MAXXI Museo Atrium, Rome

Scale: 5 meters Width x 8 meters Height x 3 meters Depth

Competition Announcement for the selection, execution and acquisition of two works of art to be installed at the MAXXI National Museum of the Arts of the XXI Century in Via Guido Reni, Rome.

ARTIST STATEMENT
The central approach is to create a hanging installation (approximately : 8 meter height, 5 meter width and 3 meter depth) for the Atrium section of the museum. The concept for this project was born out of a process of consideration of three fundamental ideas consisting of: Architectural detail (space), Roman history, and the idea of symbolism. This process allowed me to take details of the structural interior such as; the pathways and ramps that run through the museum like blood vessels and the historical significance of Rome as the heart of an empire (symbolically and literally) I will combine these elements through the creation of Corazon, that will visually reference a whale heart. This installation will be a contemporary interpretation which will utilize the use of light and translucent material. The lights contained within the structure will be programmed to move and beat in a sequence of color resulting in the creation of an installation that takes to life, in an effort to capture the essence of the power of a life force (heart and soul) essential to existence.

It is my intention to create a work of art that seamlessly interacts with the people and the architecture.
