ARTIST STATEMENT The central approach is to create a hanging installation (approximately : 8 meter height, 5 meter width and 3 meter depth) for the Atrium section of the museum. The concept for this project was born out of a process of consideration of three fundamental ideas consisting of: Architectural detail (space), Roman history, and the idea of symbolism. This process allowed me to take details of the structural interior such as; the pathways and ramps that run through the museum like blood vessels and the historical significance of Rome as the heart of an empire (symbolically and literally) I will combine these elements through the creation of Corazon, that will visually reference a whale heart. This installation will be a contemporary interpretation which will utilize the use of light and translucent material. The lights contained within the structure will be programmed to move and beat in a sequence of color resulting in the creation of an installation that takes to life, in an effort to capture the essence of the power of a life force (heart and soul) essential to existence.
It is my intention to create a work of art that seamlessly interacts with the people and the architecture. |
