ARTIST STATEMENT (English / Espanol)

"King Me, Dominate Me" is an interactive mixed-media sculpture which explores the interplay of biology, artifice, and sexual dominance. The box opens, revealing a checkerboard pattern comprised of fingerprints. Traditional checker pieces are substituted for cast silicone nipples. The precision and geometry of the box is in sharp contrast both visually and tactilely to the organic nipple forms, which were cast from molds made of my nipples during pregnancy, just days before giving birth. The resulting pieces are alive yet inert, like the traditional female form. The nipples appear to be sliced from living flesh by the inhuman mechanical violence of an industrial process. As the players manipulate the pieces according to biological imperative, e.g. the rules of the game, they explore the role of sexuality in social domination.
