MARIPOSA DORADA explores interplays between power and fragility, beauty and ferocity. Cuba’s national flower, the Flor de Mariposa, represents these contrasting concepts. During colonial times, citizens repurposed the delicate petals to hide independence messages. Thus transforming an elegant flower into a tool for revolution. MARIPOSA DORADA draws inspiration from this shift in meaning. The work is meant to be observed from different angles and rests on a series of tubes. Because of this, the light is eternally in motion.
