LOTUS

“Lotus” is part of a body of encaustic panels originating from the set entitled “Snow and Grass.” The statement for that set discusses some of the underlying ideas and methods in this piece and the others.
In “Lotus,” like in “Snow and Grass,” I approach the natural world of living plants and materials. The patterns and qualities of light filtering through different substances and various plants have fascinated me, and I seek to evoke them in this work. Also, like the other encaustic sets that focus more on the body, these centered on plants put the life forms in a new context, so that they can be reinterpreted differently by each viewer.
