Collaborations

Grimanesa Amorós collaborates across disciplines, bringing interactive light sculpture and landscape lighting design into projects with fashion designers, musicians, perfumers, photographers, publishers, and brands. One of the pioneering women in light art, the light artist has used light as material and language since 2002, and in collaboration she keeps that vocabulary — hand-formed LED tubing, slow shifts of color, forms drawn from nature and Peruvian cultural heritage — while allowing another discipline to set the terms. In fashion, her light sculpture has appeared in boutiques, campaigns, and art fair presentations, where illuminated form meets garment, textile, and body. In music and performance, her installations have shared the stage with singers and instrumentalists, so the artwork becomes part of a live work rather than its backdrop. In publishing, her artworks and photography have been made for magazine covers, editorial features, and limited editions, translating sculptural light into printed image. She has also created works with hospitality and luxury brands, perfumers, and cultural festivals, alongside limited-edition and benefit projects produced with galleries and arts organizations. Each collaboration is reciprocal: it asks the partner discipline a question that light alone cannot answer, and the answer usually changes the sculpture. Across all of them Amorós explores identity, transformation, memory, and connection, using illumination to link contemporary art with design, fashion, music, and the spaces people inhabit. These projects carry light art beyond the gallery and the public plaza, demonstrating how light works as a shared medium — adaptable to a storefront, a concert hall, a printed page, or a public square — and how collaboration widens the audience for light as a sculptural practice. Each project listed here links to its own page with images and credits for the designers, performers, publishers, and brands involved, so the contribution of every partner stays visible alongside the artwork itself.
