Grimanesa Amoros, in collaboration with Closed the X Campaign

‘I use sculpture, video, and lighting to create works that illuminate our notions of personal identity and community. For me, art is an agent for empowerment, involving viewers from all different backgrounds and communities. Racimo is my latest large-scale project that was recently installed in Finland. It is a lighting sculpture located under the Central Park bridge of Allure of the Sea, the largest cruise ship in the world. I travel extensively living my dream. This is what I love to do and I will never stop trying to make more pieces with fresh inspiration.’

’The X’ is an ongoing campaign – first launched in Autumn/Winter 2010 by Closed – that celebrates individualism and variety, creativity, and location. Ten innovators in ten cities around the world comprise the talent pool for this debut campaign. Each is recognized for their strength of character and unique artistic output.

All of ‘The X’ individuals have a Leica camera with GPS tracking to monitor their movements. Follow their latest work, track the activities in each host city by traveling through their profiles, and be inspired by their personal city guide recommendations.

Born in Peru and now based in New York, Grimanesa Amorós describes herself as an interdisciplinary artist with diverse interests in the fields of social history, scientific research, and critical theory. All have greatly influenced her work.
