BIENALSUR 2018 | SUR GLOBAL AHORA | Practicas, Tradiciones, Apropiaciones II

Curator:
Florencia Battiti | Buenos Aires, Argentina

BIENALSUR is the International Contemporary Art Biennial of South America, a groundbreaking initiative organized by the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) in Argentina. This global event brings together artists, curators, and thinkers from across the world to explore contemporary art practices and foster cross-cultural dialogue.

One of the highlights of BIENALSUR is the panel discussion titled Prácticas, Tradiciones, Apropiaciones II, part of the 13 Encuentro Sur Global. This discussion expands the concept of the “South” to a nearly planetary scale, uniting voices from five continents to examine the intersections of art, tradition, and innovation.

Artist Grimanesa Amorós was among the distinguished panelists at the event. Known for her large-scale light installations and interdisciplinary works, Amorós shared insights into her artistic practice, which often draws inspiration from her Peruvian heritage and explores themes of cultural identitysocial issues, and human connection.

Amorós’s participation highlighted the role of art in bridging cultures and fostering global understanding. Her work, which has been exhibited across the United StatesEuropeAsia, and Latin America, exemplifies the power of art to transcend borders and create meaningful dialogue.
