The Peninsula Hotels group stands out among the world’s leading luxury hotel brands. Owned and operated by The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), it has a proud heritage dating back to 1866. HSH is Asia’s oldest still-in-operation hotel company.
The flagship hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928. Today, the brand portfolio includes ten luxury hotels globally. Each property reflects the group’s commitment to elegance, innovation, and exceptional service.
The Peninsula Paris is a historic luxury hotel originally known as the Hotel Majestic. During World War I, it served as a field hospital for wounded officers. In World War II, it became the headquarters of the German military high command in France.
After a complex and costly restoration, the hotel reopened in August 2014. It now combines historic charm with modern luxury, offering guests a unique experience.
Recently, The Peninsula Paris hosted renowned artist Grimanesa Amorós for a special event. Amorós shared insights into her artistic practice and the philosophy behind her immersive light installations. She discussed how her work bridges art, technology, and cultural identity, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary art.
Amorós’s talk provided a deep dive into her creative process. She explained how her installations transform spaces and engage viewers. Her ability to merge art, science, and emotion resonated with the audience, inspiring them to think creatively.
The event highlighted the transformative power of art in luxury hospitality. Amorós’s work aligns with The Peninsula’s mission to celebrate innovation and cultural exchange. Her lecture left a lasting impression on attendees.
The Peninsula Hotels continue to host events that bring together artists, thinkers, and guests. These gatherings provide opportunities for learning, networking, and collaboration. By fostering meaningful interactions, the group empowers individuals to engage with art and culture in new ways.
(1:37) Sometimes you have more of a refined eye to look at it because they’re more digital. But I wanted to be able to attract a different audience just besides, you know, the collectors.
(2:24) It’s perfection. At the same time, it’s so imperfect. Nature also keeps evolving. It never stops. It keeps changing. And I think that’s part of my philosophy in life as well.
(3:03) In those two broad decisions, either love or hate, then still, I’m getting and capturing their time. And time is precious. So I love that people are not indifferent to my work. I think that for each artist, we tend to live through life and we become very much like a sponge of everything.
(3:33) I’m working on a design fair in Shanghai. There’s going to be some works with the gallery, that Ben Brown Gallery represents me. They have galleries in Hong Kong and also in London. So that would be next.
