Latin American fair arteaméricas smaller this year
Fabiola Santiago, Miami Herald
The Latin American art fair arteaméricas 2009, which opens Friday and runs through Monday, is smaller this year — only about 50 galleries from around the Americas are selling art work. But the fair is far richer in content with art conferences, sculpture and video art project rooms, curated art pavilions from Mexico, Argentina and Cuba, and a site-specific work created by Miami’s José Bedia, a commission from teh Miami Art Museum. Among the sculptures featured is the mixed-media work Preciosas burbujas (Precious Bubbles) by Peruvian artist Grimanesa Amorós, above.
arteaméricas 2009 opens noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; noon to 7 p.m. Sunday; noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Dr., Hall A, Miami Beach. Cost is $12 at the door, free from noon to 2 p.m. daily. For more information, call 305-854-3050 or www.arteamericas.com
