Uros is part of a series of light sculptures by Grimanesa Amorós. The sculpture is Amorós’ interpretation of the floating Uros Islands in Puno, Peru.
For
Issey Miyake’s Tribeca headquarters store, Amorós has multiplied and arranged these units into structures that are monumental in scale yet weightless in appearance. Illuminated by a technologically ingenuous LED custom lighting sequence, the installation’s color schemes and intensities continuously transform. At times, the work seems buoyant and ethereal, while at other times, it appears as a solid mass.
tribeca ISSEY MIYAKE is the site for the
Miyake US headquarters and the flagship store carrying all Issey Miyake collection. It features a titanium “intervention”, or sculpture, by Frank Gehry.

During the 2011 holiday season, as part of its 10-year anniversary celebrations, tribeca ISSEY MIYAKE presented “Uros” – a lighting sculpture installation by Peruvian artist Grimanesa Amorós. The project was part of a series of works encapsulating the natural elegance of sea foam and totora reeds used for building the floating Uros Islands from Lake Titicaca in Puno, Peru. The artist designed a special sequence of lights within the sculpture to extend its presence in the boutique interior without additional physical materials. tribeca ISSEY MIYAKE held a special press launch event for the artist and the project in December, 2011.
Durante la temporada festiva del 2011, como parte de las celebraciones por su décimo aniversario, tribeca ISSEY MIYAKE presento “Uros” – una instalación de escultura de luz realizada por la artista peruana Grimanesa Amoros. El proyecto forma parte de una serie de trabajos que encierra la elegancia natural de la espuma del mar y las cañas de totora utilizadas para construir las islas flotantes de los Uros en el Lago Titicaca en Puno, Perú. La artista diseñó una secuencia especial de luces dentro de la escultura que extiende su presencia al interior de la tienda sin materiales físicos adicionales. En Diciembre del 2011 Tribeca Issey Miyake organizó un evento especial de prensa para el lanzamiento de la artista y el proyecto.
