Grimanesa Amoros Grimanesa Amoros Grimanesa Amoros The 52nd International Art Biennial in Venice, Italy takes place from June 10-November 21 2007. The Venice exhibition is the world’s most popular, attracting the participation of hundreds of artists from all over the world and for the first time it is curated by an American art critic-Robert Storr who is the former Chief Curator at MOMA New York. The festivals title this year is “think with the senses-feel with the mind:art in the present tense” So with the theme of present tense in mind its appropriate that the Biennial features an African Pavillion for the first time in its 112 year History. This festival benefitted as a whole from this infusion of new energy with artists from diverse backgrounds such as Olu Oguibe (Nigeria) Odili Odita (Nigeria) and Alfredo Jaar (Santiago, Chile) The Exhibit is the brainchild of curators Simon Njami and Fernando Alvim who sought to forge a new dialogue between contemporary artists and the art establishment by introducing the work of African artists who are very much creating “art in the present tense”.
