LUMINO UNO
LUMINO UNO at Borgo Laudato Si’ in Castel Gandolfo
Location: Borgo Laudato Si’ in Castel Gandolfo (Vatican Territory)
Media: LEDs, reflective material, custom lighting sequence, and electrical hardware
Dimensions: TBD
LUMINO UNO explores how light behaves as a structure for understanding unity and presence. A single photon carries energy through space, yet it remains fundamentally imperceptible on its own. When photons align and move in the same direction, they form a visible beam. This shift from isolated motion to collective radiance forms the core concept of the work.
The installation is composed of highly reflective, fragmented stainless steel fragments and embedded, energy-efficient LED lighting. These materials, engineered with industrial precision, are arranged to reflect the surrounding environment of sky, cloud, and atmosphere. The work captures the living surface of the world in constant motion. It exists at the convergence of scientific structure and ecological spontaneity, emphasizing that natural systems and technological forms are not in opposition but are part of the same continuum.
This meeting point reflects a deeper inquiry into ecological integrity and holistic human development. By mirroring the rhythms of nature through artificial materials and controlled light, the work affirms the need for balance between progress and preservation. It suggests that innovation must remain responsive to the environment, and that harmony with the natural world is essential to our collective growth.
The lighting sequence becomes a crucial bridge between these ideas. It introduces time as a compositional force, pulsing and receding in dialogue with the sky. The movement of light is subtle and steady, offering a meditative rhythm that honors both technological refinement and natural fluctuation. It invites viewers into a state of awareness shaped by change, alignment, and reflection.
Each component of the work holds its position while contributing to a larger system of coherence. LUMINO UNO creates a space that encourages stillness, perceptual clarity, and environmental consciousness. It proposes that illumination is not a singular event, but a condition made possible through intention, structure, and respect for the forces that surround us.
